During a grilling of Special Counsel Jack Smith by Republican members of Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri called Smith a “dirtbag” and brazenly provided what he said was evidence that would prove Smith was in Georgia in February of 2024.
Schmitt’s aides held up an enlarged collage of pictures which included alleged text messages from Smith sent to an associate. Those text messages, according to Schmitt, proved that Smith had been in Atlanta to see a “Hawks basketball game.”
Whoops!
But regardless that Schmitt was proven to show that he presented false evidence, in front of the entire Senate Judiciary Committee, the entire country, Schmitt not only refused to back down from his allegations, he had the balls to say that he “stood by” his statement of calling Jack Smith a “dirtbag.”
So who IS the actual dirtbag here?
Schmitt then doubled down on his false claim and went on Fox News which not only did not fact-check him, but lauded him for his “got ya” moment.
This is just the latest example that clearly shows that REGARDLESS of the evidence provided in PROVING that they are incorrect, the Trump and MAGA faithful will just dig their heels in and repeat the lie. Of course, that is one of the true characteristics of a cult environment.
So why do people lie, are shown that they are lying, yet continue to perpetrate that lie over and over again?
The explanation is something that has come to be known as Brandolini’s law or, in some cases, the bullshit asymmetry principle. Coined in 2103 by Italian programmer Aleberto Brandolini, the principle is based on the concept that “it takes considerable effort to debunk the misinformation as compared to the relative ease of creating it in the first place.” Simply put, it takes a hell of a lot more energy to debunk the bullshit than to produce it.
And the challenge of debunking the bullshit is compounded by the challenge of the defiance and insistence to its reality from the community that originated it.
And when you have a community that regardless of what proofs are presented to them, they continue to support, honor, and mimic its leader and narratives in spite of the nonfactual content, you have a no-win situation and you are just set up to bang your head against a brick wall.
Some things to consider:
In March of 2025, Donald Trump said in an address to Congress that the government had spent $8 million “for making mice transgender.” In reality, it was for the common practice of using TRANGENIC mice for disease research. Yet the administration continued with pushing another part of the “transgender” false narrative.
Donald Trump and his administration, specifically Education Secretary Linda McMahon, in August of 2026, stated that “schools have been secretly transitioning students without parental knowledge.” This is so blatantly false. It is an underlying tactic to create more misinformation about the LBGTQ+ community.
The biggest lie of all is that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump. The ONLY PERSON TRYING TO RIG the election was…Donald Trump. Trump made a phone call to the Georgia election authority to find 11,700 votes for him. He used every attempt at coercion to get him to do it. He didn’t.
And if he is so worried about “election security,” then why did he get rid of all of the independent oversight organizations? Because he DOESN’T care about election security. He wants to ensure that he has control over the election results. Huge difference.
Think about this…EVERY SINGLE PERSON nominated for a federal judgeship refused to say that Joe Biden won the 2020 election. Each and every one of them used the same line – “Joe Biden was certified as the winner.”
And, of course, Donald Trump continues to state publicly that he won three times and that the second one was rigged…REGARDLESS that his own people have explained to him that that is completely false.
The pardons. The guy who says that he is so tough on crime is the one pardoning so many convicted felons. It’s like an episode of the old Batman series when Dr. Cassandra Spellcraft breaks six of Batman’s core arch-villains out of the Gotham Penitentiary including Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, Egghead, and King Tut. The convicted felon set free so many people proven guilty, and convicted, of some serious and heinous crimes.
The list of the people who have been pardoned is literally scary, considering their crimes, and the fact that so many of them, once pardoned, went on to commit even more crimes.
In July of 2026, a former Olympian was charged with criminal destruction of the Lincoln Memorial Reflective Pool. Donald Trump sat in front of the press pool cameras everyday repeating the allegation and each day seemed to increase the size of the cut caused by a box cutter. Even when evidence pointed to another reason for the occurrence, and Jeanine Pirro dropped the case, Trump went ballistic and trampled on her abilities to the press, while doubling down on the former Olympian’s guilt. In the end, it was Trump’s contractor coming forward ADMITTING that it was a contractor error and took full responsibility for the poor workmanship. Yet, Trump continued to perpetuate the lie that it was vandalized with a box cutter.
The entire Donald Trump businessman and dealmaker persona is a lie. He is a colossal failure at everything he touches. Let’s go down the list:
- Trump bankrupted the United States Football League (USFL) because he was making a play to get his own NFL franchise and didn’t care the least how it affected the other USFL owners, the players, the executives and employees…he literally took the entire league down.
- Trump actually bankrupted four casinos. (How dumb can you POSSIBLY be to bankrupt a casino?) Trump Taj Mahal (1991) filed for bankruptcy soon after opening. Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino (1992) filed Chapter 11. Trump Castle Hotel and Casino (1992) filed Chapter 11. Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts (2004) restructured but that just delayed the process and led to another bankruptcy.
- Trump purchased the The Plaza Hotel in New York in 1988 and filed bankruptcy in 1992, losing control of it in 1995.
- Trump purchased Trump Shuttle purchased for $365 million in 1989 and sold it 18 months later after losing $125 million.
- Trump Entertainment Resorts went bankrupt in 2009.
- Trump opened a non-profit, non-accredited school called Trump University in 2005. He was forced to close it down in 2010 and pay $25 million in settlements for allegations of fraud.
- Trump started Trump Mortgage in 2006 and was forced to close it down within a year.
- Trump embarked on a travel website in 2006 but was compelled to shut it down a year after launching it.
- Trump Vodka (2006-2011) was discontinued after poor sales.
- Trump Steaks (2007-2014) was discontinued also after poor sales.
And to make matters even worse, with each and every business venture going south, he literally stiffed workers, contractors, investors…always walking away and leaving others in distress and holding the bag.
So who’s the dirtbag?
