The irony of it all. A man standing at a podium asking for every member in the chamber to stand and grant him their absolute allegiance, and then calling them all kinds of names when they refused and told them to be ashamed of themselves. The one who should be ashamed of himself is Donald J. Trump. He is just a master conman. The ultimate liar.
It’s actually an amazing thing to witness. The man lies. And yet people still believe in him…they believe the lies. Why? That is something I, for the life of me, don’t understand.
To me, the blatant lies are so, well, blatant. They are obvious. He makes statements that the average person HAS TO KNOW that they can’t possibly be true.
The easiest is the repeated claim that drug prices will come down 1,600% when it is mathematically impossible. And that is just the very tippy top of the iceberg. He has told so many lies that it is hard to keep up with them. And he hauls so many insults and vile statements that it is also hard to keep up with them.
Tuesday night’s gathering was not a “State of the Union.” There were no updates, no policies, no strategies discussed. Rather, it was one of Donald J. Trump’s rallies on steroids. Noting more than some more of his screaming into a microphone with self-adoration and glorification and not only repeated the same old lies that he has BEEN telling, but then adding in some more. He actually does it so well. He is able to come up with the fabrications on the fly. Pamela Bondi has to pause and reach for her “burn book” to be able to spew the nonsense.
Donald J. Trump, in an interview with People Magazine in 1998 said: If I were to run, I’d run as a Republican. They’re the dumbest group of voters in the country. They believe anything on Fox News. I could lie and they’d still eat it up. I bet my numbers would be terrific.”
He admits that he lies. He doesn’t care that people KNOW he lies.
He admits that he doesn’t care about the Constitution. He told Kristen Welker on Meet the Press that he doesn’t believe he has to follow the Constitution.
He doesn’t believe he has to consult with Congress to approve anything.
Why do people still believe him? That is what happens when it’s a cult.
The concerning part, the bewildering part, is why so many people actually think this is all normal…that this country is in good shape. It’s not. It’s the most divisive since….since The Civil War. Never has there been a country taken over in such a way since…1930’s Germany. And that’s exactly what the gathering on Tuesday night resembled…as he hangs banners from government buildings and demands allegiance from everyone in the room. It won’t be long until he demands everyone is high-stepping through the streets of Washington, D.C. and raising a hand to HIM in an honorary salute.
